Don’t Drink the Kool Aid by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family and Fans,
Each day is an opportunity to renew your spirit. I wrote this poem to renew our children's spirit and resurrect our own. They/we can get drawn into belief systems that deny our genius, our beauty, our strength and power. Let our lives defy the lie!
Day 18: Don’t Drink the Kool Aid
Copyright 2014, Lindamichelle Baron
Don’t drink the Kool Aid
Don’t buy the lie
Haters belittle everything you try
They want you to give up
They want you to quit
It’s just that their world is too small
For your dreams to fit.
Don’t drink the Kool Aid
Don’t buy the lie
They’re trying to sell you pie in the sky.
You won’t win if you give in.
Who are they, anyway?
Why believe what they have to say?
They are not even a minute in your life’s hours.
Don’t place your life in their make-believe powers.
They’re like the Wizard of Oz
Pretending to be large and in charge
Don’t drink the Kool Aid
Don’t buy their lie.
Revoke the “okey doke”
Reveal the self you never knew
Be the self inside that is true
Be the self to make your dreams renew
Step up to the power inside of you.
Make your own Kool Aid
Create your own sky
Put the real you in place of the lie.
Live your choice
Be your own unique voice
Make your plan, take your stand
Its up to you to do what you gotta do
The time is now. The place is here
The decision is yours. Make it…take it…
If you dare.

Don't Drink The Kool Aid is one of my favorite poems from my personal treasure trove of poems

Happy Resurrection Sunday by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Happy Resurrection Sunday!!!
I remember Sundays, way back when I was about 12 years old, and an active PK (preacher’s kid). It was my opportunity to get dressed “to the nines.” I played handball, punch ball and touch football most of the week, and dressed accordingly…some say I was a “tomboy.” But Sundays was my dress-up day. And the best Sunday for dressing up was Easter Sunday. It was a supernova opportunity for me to blast into my most Dorothy-esque self. For those of you who don’t know…Dorothy was my mother, one of the early fashion models of known African descent.

Easter Sunday means so much more to the super-senior me. That’s of the benefits of aging, my growing insights, and evolving understanding of life’s purpose. I still want to be Dorothy-esque, but now its not the glamorous model I aspire to be, but her as a role model for straight up love for her children, her friends and family, and her God.

Easter, or rather, Resurrection Sunday is when I call on love the most.
What is Resurrection Sunday if not a recognition of God the Father’s love. Thank you Father for sacrificing your son for our salvation, and raising Him up so we could be assured of our place in Eternity.

Day 17 Another favorite:
FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE

I don't want to hide or change my color.

I believe there's a Creator above, who especially chose this tint and poured it all over me, with love.

He used his fullest paintbrush to add the details of my features. He highlighted my entire body to be prominent among His creatures.

He designed my broader nose and curved my fuller lips. He contoured my entire body. He even added accents to my hips.

He gave me a crown of lamb's wool and twirled each curl with care. He thought of His lamb sent to earth, while designing each strand of my hair.

Some pretend not to see a difference, as if there's some kind of shame, in being who and what I am, and they're trying not to cast blame.

Some try to prove they love me by comparing me to others in my race who they think are unusually wonderful, so they slot me into that space.

Don't excuse me for the group of me, and don't accuse me for it either. Ethnicity can't make right or wrong. It's time we teach ourselves-it's neither.

Who are we to pick and choose, elevate or diminish someone's worth, when the Creator designed and individually signed every person on this earth.

We are uniquely handcrafted to be more than the sum of each part. We are masterpieces, handle with care, irreplaceable works of His art.

FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE is one of my favorite poems from my book,"For The Love of Life" available on my website at:

The Interloper by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Day 16: The Interloper
By Lindamichellebaron
Copyright 2000 Lindamichellebaron

I love rediscovering and writing about nature, but I'm reminded of the Garden of Eden. A perfect place, created by God for his newest creation, man and woman, Adam & Eve. In that case Satan took the form of a natural animal to block their blessings by disregarding their Father's demand. I am so thankful as we prepare to celebrate The Resurrection that gives each of us the opportunity to be forgiven for any and all transgressions. The devil is a lie.

The Interloper
Birds, squirrels, bugs, even the flowers play around,
and stay around for days and hours
in my backyard
They couldn't be ruder.
They make me the intruder
in my own backyard

The Interloper is one of my favorite poems from my personal treasure trove of poems.

Hair Prayer by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Day 15: Hair Prayer
By Dr. Lindamichellebaron
I wrote this poem referencing having my hair "done" before Christmas. Actually, I could insert any major holiday! So please insert Easter... or actually every other weekend I endured the hot comb. The real message of this poem is whatever the day, it's important that we love ourselves. And of course, love the One who made us. And His Son who died for us.
HAIR PRAYER
Now I lay me down to sleep, I... Excuse me Lord, for not going on, but You know what tomorrow is... Christmas Eve.
That means my hair has to be washed, combed out and straightened early tomorrow morning.
I just thought I'd ask if You could make my hair, what they call "good" just until after Christmas. I don't think I can sit through my mother slowly burning me to death that with that
big
hot
iron
comb
after she has already tried to pull my head off by my tangles. If You can't do that, maybe You could just give my mother a few dollars, so she can send me to the hairdresser.
I won't mind wearing it the way it is, if You make Mommy promise she won't ship me off to Africa, or any place else. Just tell her You love me the way I am.

Hair Prayer is one of my favorite poems from my book,"The Sun is On." For more of my poems, please get your own copy of my book "The Sun is On" on my website at:

Bug Rub by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Day 14: Bug Rub
By Lindamichellebaron
Copyright 2000 Lindamichellebaron
I found this fun little poem…I’d forgotten about…along with several others about my backyard…poems I’d also forgotten about. I wrote them over 20 years ago when I spent hours enjoying Mother Nature at home. These poems are so different from the poems I’m known for. I may just have to publish another book revealing this other side of me. I hope you take the opportunity to read different types of poems from different types of poets, and maybe get motivated to “poetize yourself.” Or in my case...I poetized “my-selves.”

Bug Rub
By Lindamichelle Baron
The bug found the place
The only spot
Where my body was, and the
Bug rub was not.
Why do bugs find
The place I miss,
And then thank me
With their itchy kiss?
Bug Rub is one of my favorite poems from my personal treasure trove of poems.

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,

Day 13: I Love The Sound of This Book
copyright Lindamichellebaron 2000

I Love The Sound of This Book
I’ve discovered nature
In my own back yard
Birds and butterflies and bumble bees
And color splashed fish
Flying and swimming to the melody
Of water falling

And then there are flowers
surprising me everywhere I look
Nature created a musical
Picture book
For me to live in.
I Love The Sound of This Book is one of my favorite poems from my personal treasure trove of poems.

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,

Day 12: My Lily Pad
By Lindamichellebaron
copyright Lindamichellebaron 2020

My Lily Pad
Sometimes, I sit in back of my just-right house
in the middle of my just-right back yard
with my very own fish pond
and watch
the sun turn green lily pods
into a pads of floating pastel petals.
I feel so special
when I see the lily pads
open themselves up
and close themselves tight
like they want to play hide and seek
I can catch the sun
using its rays like a baton to
direct the lily petals into a silent dance
for an audience of me.

My Lily Pad is one of my favorite poems from my personal treasure trove of poems. Hope you enjoyed Day 12. To book me:

Ask A Silly Question by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Day 11: Happy National Pet Day!!!
This week in honor of Resurrection Sunday, I will be resurrecting poems that are my favorite from my personal treasure trove of poems.
I was sitting in my backyard in front of my small pond years ago, and this poem popped into my head. I had forgotten about it until today. Actually, the only pet I have had since I was a child has been these fish. I share the poem with you today as we celebrate National Pet Day. In fact, I challenge all of you to create a poem asking your own silly questions.

Ask a Silly Question
by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

If a fish is red will its color rinse away to pink?
If fish are thirsty do they take a drink?
If they eat too much will they float or sink?
If air gets in their eyes do they blink?
If the water gets too warm will they shrink?
Should I add soap to the water so they don’t stink?
What do you think?

You Are Just Too Much By Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,
Day 10
Today we recognize Palm Sunday. As we prepare for Resurrection Sunday I'd like to dedicate this poem to the One who is, by far ... just too much!!!
You Are Just Too Much
By Dr. Lindamichellebaron
I tried to write you a poem. Don't think this excuse is "for the birds. But when I try to describe I just run out of words.
You, I could put you in a poem and wrap you up tight. I could rhyme you up and rhythm you up to sound just right.
I could write this and that about you and add "such and such." But I couldn't capture you, because you are just too much.
You're the longitude and latitude of what I need. You're a library packed with books I could cuddle up to read.
You're the x and y axis I could plot to find... me. You're what my teachers tried to teach me about infinity.
See, I'm trying to describe I'm adding this and that, and I'm inserting "such and such." But I can't capture all of you, because you're just too much. you.
Yes, I'm known as a poet. I know how to write. Yet, I'm still trying to re-compose you in the middle of the night.
I'm rewriting and revising.
Do you know how many words it would take to create enough metaphors and similes for the poem I'd need to make?
I've this and that and I've inserted "such and such." But I still can't rhapsodize you.
Because, you are just too much!

You Are Just Too Much is one of my favorite poems from my book,"For The Love of Life" available on my website:

A Path To Math by Dr. Lindamichellebaron

Dear Friends, Family, and Fans,

Day 9: A Path To Math
by Dr. Lindamichellebaron
A PATH TO MATH...PLEASE!
Math isn't easy. I don't care what they say. I'm going to close my eyes and subtract it away... Divide what's left. Watch it disappear. Sure hope this problem is divisible by fear.
A Path To Math is one of my favorite poems from my book,"The Sun is On." We have to stop saying and being proud of not being good in math. It's too easy to say, " I'm not good in math." Math is awesome. Educators must share the curiosity, the creativity and the problem based thinking of math. Remove the fear and add the joy of figuring it out. Learning doesn't have to be easy but our job is to make learning joyous! Embrace the challenge!
