Thank you for allowing me to share my favorite poems with you during April "poetry month." It has been a pleasure sharing my favorites with you. Poetry month surprise. Last Sunday morning one of my favorite couples texted me a screen shot of the front page of Newsday’s LI Style. Surprise! Who’s on the front page…recognizing my recent honor, being named the inaugural poet laureate of the Town of Hempstead. I was highlighted along with three other Long Island poet laureates. I’m now a member of an awesome team of wordsmiths. In fact, one of the team, the Nassau County poet laureate featured me on her radio program.
Then Monday morning the Town of Hempstead sponsored me, as poet laureate, to present in a symposium with school district superintendents. The Town Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor and I presented each superintendent a “Poetic License”
I was also invited to present a poem dedicated to my own York College at their fabulous Gala, held this past Thursday. This Saturday I’m performing several poems in Nyack, and am the keynote speaker at a major Queens event. Oh, did I mention that I was asked to stop by Centennial school in Roosevelt to meet the young poets who wrote poems, motivated by my poetry. The Sun Is On. This post is written to punctuate a celebratory month in which myself and my social media guru, Lady Charmaine Day posted a poem each day.
I’ve outlined one week of this awesome month. I am feeling the love. I’m so thankful. I’d like to use this platform to encourage each of us to express our creative selves. To honor our own unique talents. I’m using mine to spread love, insights, joy, introspection. Please unwrap your gifts and honor the gifts of others!
Love and realness,
