Day 15: Hair Prayer
By Dr. Lindamichellebaron
I wrote this poem referencing having my hair "done" before Christmas. Actually, I could insert any major holiday! So please insert Easter... or actually every other weekend I endured the hot comb. The real message of this poem is whatever the day, it's important that we love ourselves. And of course, love the One who made us. And His Son who died for us.
HAIR PRAYER
Now I lay me down to sleep, I... Excuse me Lord, for not going on, but You know what tomorrow is... Christmas Eve.
That means my hair has to be washed, combed out and straightened early tomorrow morning.
I just thought I'd ask if You could make my hair, what they call "good" just until after Christmas. I don't think I can sit through my mother slowly burning me to death that with that
big
hot
iron
comb
after she has already tried to pull my head off by my tangles.
If You can't do that, maybe You could just give my mother a few dollars, so she can send me to the hairdresser.
I won't mind wearing it the way it is, if You make Mommy promise she won't ship me off to Africa, or any place else. Just tell her You love me the way I am.
Hair Prayer is one of my favorite poems from my book,"The Sun is On." For more of my poems, please get your own copy of my book "The Sun is On" on my website at:
