What an honor I’ve been served.Yes, I received a Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteer service from Americorps and the United States President. I was presented the award by Dr Reba Renee Perry-Ufele Distributor for the award at a family and friends gathering this July 6th. As much as I appreciate this award, it serves to remind me that we each have an obligation to provide service. Opportunities and needs are unlimited. I pledge to continue to provide service. I ask God to give me the strength to do so. I also want to thank so many who have jobs you may be paid for, but not to the level of the service you render. Yes, like those in the armed forces, and our dedicated nurses and teachers, and other public servants who embrace the opportunity for keeping us safe from violence and fires, I thank you. I thank those of you who reach out in unseen and unrecognized ways. Thank you for your service!During this season I prayerfully ask that we add the responsibility of ensuring that all Americans vote to our service activities. Those of us who are the offspring of enslaved people have another level of obligation, in honor of our ancestors, many of whom lost their lives, or were jailed and otherwise punished for fighting for that right. I’m asking that each one of us not only vote, but find ways to encourage and support our young people voting, they may not have voted before; or guide others who are new citizens; and even remind others who haven’t realized the importance of each and every vote.
